6:15 p.m. Monday

Whipping all-directional winds have now found our Rock Creek Valley, and, in an interesting study of contrasts, the sun still shines, the smoke columns yet (wonderfully) rise straight into the air, and all has a sense of calmness about it.  Yet the wind begins to pick up.

In talking with one of the many ground attack "I.A." ("Initial Attack") forces that line the creek every 100 feet now, once the smoke from a storm gets whirling, it has the ability to make its own weather system, even complete with rain.  That is what we all have an eye out for--a self generated monster that goes where it wants, when it wants and as serendipitiously as it wants.  And just how is your Monday evening going out there?!?

Firewatchers All:  Keep all fingers and toes crossed as we go through the next several hours; I have never lived in the Mid-West, but this must be what it is like during the precursor to a tornado attack--you know something is way out there, just where, when and why become as interesting of questions as they are preplexing.

More to follow as it comes our way!

Ron and Kathy - Please know that our thoughts and prayers have been with you. Your ability to turn impending disaster into just another obstacle to be overcome speaks to your character and attitude. Please pass on our admiration and thanks to the fire crews. Tom and Melissa
