Tuesday, July 31

A day of contrasts on Rock Creek, as, during the evening hours the fire above us and half a mile away took a night off and calmed down, leaving bright skies and little smoke in the morning hours. In the back, our fire suppressent system lies in waiting, a 5 horsepower gasoline powered water pump that supplies water from a nearby drainage ditch to fill the 500' of fire hose that we have stragegically spread throughout our property, giving almost complete perimiter coverage.

Management of this fire has been upgraded to a Type 2 Incident Team, which will manage collectively now 3.500 acres under flame in what will now be called the "Sawmill Complex"--consisting of the Sawmill Gulch fire. the Wyman 2 fire (at mile marker 24) and the Fisher Point fire. A heliport and retardant batch mixing plant has been set up on our good friend's "Liberal Terry" Heffernan property at mile marker 6 to service these fires as well as the blaze which is now over 1,000 acres strong and heading east at the foot of Rock Creek Road.

And, yes, the 15,000 strong Testicle Festival is scheduled to continue as booked starting here tomorrow at the foot of Rock Creek Road, which, blessedly, is now closed to all but resident traffic.
