Gang: It is a hot time in the old town here in MT, as Extravaganza headquarters is now surrounded by four forest fires, each of which are burning out of control and, collectively, could well create the "Perfect Fire Storm".
For direct info on the fire nearest to us, the "Sawmill Creek Wildland Fire" has just been upgraded by the Forest Service to an "incident" which, in Forest Servicese means its now bad enough to get some serious attention, the web site for which is www.inciweb.org/incident/876/-- it is complete with maps and the most recent posted update. On the cover page map, Extravaganza Central @ Rock Creek Road mile marker 10 is located exactly half way between Sawmill Gulch (mile marker 8) and Bear Gulch (mile marker 12)--the fire is currently burning down each of those two canyons and, at last verbal posting, is approaching 200+ acres.
Around 6 p.m. this Sunday evening, the Forest Service issued a Stage One voluntary evacuation alert for mile marker 10+ along Rock Creek Road and IMMEDIATE evacuation at mile marker 20 and above. Of grave(r) concern is a fire that started a few days ago at mile marker 24 that is not up to 1,000 uncontrolled acres and headed down stream at a rapid clip. Also, as if that were not enough, at the foot of Rock Creek Road two fires are now burning out of control on either side of the freeway (our great friend [who many of you have met], Cowboy Jeff Freeman, was just given evacuation orders for his home, but his mama pigs are delivering little ones what with all the fuss about them, and, in true cowboy form, he has elected to stay and tend to them, fire notwithstanding--ah, how refreshing Montana continues to be even in the most stressful of times!).
Compounding to the confusion, the annual Testicle Festival is slated to start this Wednesday, August 1st (several thousand seedy individuals strong) and, fortunately, we were able to convince the Forest Service today to restrict access on Rock Creek Road to just locals, starting tomorrow--all we need is a few hundred screaming Harleys careening up and over and off the road to add to what is already enough chaos!!
Kathy, Tyler and I are here at the house; Ty and I are delaying our scheduled Tuesday return to fight the fire, if necessary, with the portable pumping station that we bought earlier in the week together with 500' of fire hose--we have this place covered in true Extravaganza style!!
Der Blogmaster has photos to post here in the morning.
Thanks to all for your continued best wishes and wonderful thoughts; Kathy blows a kiss each of your way!!
More to follow from the (very) warm scene of it all,
RCR
