Sawmill Creek Monday Morning Update
For those of you out there who want to viscerally find out what is it like to be amidst a forest fire, just stay tuned.
As of a few minutes ago: (a) Rock Creek Road has been closed to all but residents; (b) residents from mile marker 8 through 12 along Rock Creek Road have been asked to evacuate--this now a "Stage Two" evacuation notice [no, we are not leaving--hence the ability for y'all to witness this from afar]; (c) the full expectation is that the fire will hit Rock Creek as early as this afternoon in the Sawmill Gulch area (see map on incident website www.inciweb.org/incident/876/ ); and (d) per a visit a few minutes ago from my new best friends from the Mammoth Lakes, CA division of the Forest Service, due to the relative safety of our construction and landscaping, a fire engine most likely will be based in our backyard as either a line of defense or as a pumping station for other equipment--the heavy equipment has now been authorized and pumping stations are being set up along Rock Creek Road--the closest line to defend this now 250+ acre fire.
As an indication that things are starting to tense up here (light ash is already falling over Extravaganzaland), horrors of horrors, Kathy just cancelled her nail appointment in town, electing (properly, I might add) to use the time to pick up a new generator and several more gas cans to be filled up on her now expedited return trip to the house.
No photos are needed to describe the above, but as they become available Der Blogmaster will post them.
