Rock Creek Road Travel Advisory

For those many of you who will either be driving to the Extravaganza or, while you are here, driving on Rock Creek Road, please be wary that the speed limit on the road is 30 mph, and that the issuance of citations on that particular 12 mile stretch of road is a major source of revenue for teeny Granite County (population 2300, with only a 100 person increase in population in the last 5 years).

Radar is the order of EVERY day; up to three (count 'em) sheriffs cars have been seen on Rock Creek Road at the same time (so you can get as many as three tickets in less that 20 minutes if you try really hard); and the method of payment is the old Montana tried and true policy of "cash at the time of citation, thank you very much."  (Carry an extra $100 bill with you if you have a heavy foot.)

Each year we issue this Extravaganza warning; each year someone is tagged (including but not limited to my speedy son Tyler, by the way); and each year the same comment is made, "boy, you sure were right about that--ANYTHING over 33 mph entitles you to make a contribution to the Granite County Community Chest!"

Let's make this year an exception!
