Hello devoted readers of Der Blog, Dave Stallard here with your Extravaganza 2007 report! It looks like I'll be running this thing from here on out, as our host is out fishing with the rest of the cast!
I arrived yesterday along with the Group 1 participants, and things began in earnest. First stop, Grizzly Hackle Fly Shop in Missoula to get outfitted. We are now all sporting stylish caps to protect us from the sun, as well as a myriad of other gear. Then on to Extravaganza 2007 World Headquarters, on the banks of Rock Creek! Everyone relaxed and gathered round the main house, and the fun began:

Ron explained what it would take to get your name immortalized in the exclusive and highly sought after 20 inch club:

John Kruger demonstrates the casting form he hopes will get him on the list:

However, the smart money is on Demetry Kondrasheff, who wasted no time in getting down to Rock Creek to get his flies on the water. Here he is returning after a 3 hour fishing session just up creek from the house:

Pro golfing legend and Rock Creek neighbor Miller Barber regales Marin Catholic Football coach Ken Peralta with some stories of life on the pro tour:

Then the feast (first of many!) began:

There was daylight on Rock Creek until about 10:30, the long days a reminder of how far north we are up here. Doesn't hurt that June 21 was the summer solstice, longest day of the year. Perhaps inspired by this or some other pagan ritual, Jim Hendrickson ceremoniously lit the first fire with a monstrous torch!
That's it for now, but there will be more when the Extravaganzers return from the boats with stories (and lies!) to tell.
Your man on the scene,
Dave
